The client’s brief indicated a garden as extension of the house. A place to welcome friends and enjoy al fresco dining but also to relax after a day at work.
In order to achieve the goal, the whole area has been subdivided into three terraces, delimited among them only by changes of levels and by tanks full of Equisetum hyemale.
The garden is separated from the neighbors on the west side by a burnished steel fence arranged to form a double grid inside which Rosa ‘Alfred Carrier’ grows. The other sides are separated by a shuttered concrete wall.
I inserted three pools of water to give a quiet and natural vivacity to the whole garden and to enhance the sound of water I chose to get it out of many small copper tubes.
Each terrace has its own different purpose. The closest to house could be the one for entertaining. The second terrace is suitable for midday / evening meal. The third, most enclosed terrace, backed by walls, trees and fences, could be the ideal place for reading and private relaxation.
